Filmed primarily in the scenic mountains of Oregon, "Old Joy" makes the most of its lush setting by sharing a poignant story of friendship. Two friends are at a crossroads in life. Kurt is the former hippie who isn't quite ready to give up on his younger and hipper days. What's more is that he wants to encourage his best buddy, Mark, to follow suit and live a little. Mark, on the other hand, is waiting for his wife to give birth, and is preparing to leave Kurt's friendship behind at the end of their trip. With a long history between them, Mark and Kurt use their camping trip as a time to reflect on the old and also find time to discover the new, making each one ponder its potential to last into a new chapter. --JA |
