From the good people at HBO (and "NYPD Blue" co-creator David Milch) comes this western series set just after Custer's ignominious defeat at Little Big Horn. In this third season, lawman Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) continues his attempts to bring order to the lawless town of Deadwood, SD. He is alternately aided and thwarted by saloon-owner and de facto bad guy Al Swearingen (Ian McShane, "Lovejoy"). The show was not renewed after the third season; as of this writing it is expected to wrap up with a pair of feature-length TV movies.
Praised for its historical accuracy and ensemble acting, the series took home five Emmys in its second season and was nominated for an additional six, bringing the total to seven Emmys out of 22 nominations; McShane won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Swearingen. --SD |
