The one word that is most useful in describing Lawrence Kasdan's tribute to the great films noir of the 1940s is "hot". The film exudes a sweltering, stifling heat from every frame, the kind of heat that clouds the brain and leads to the speedy removal of clothing. For seedy Florida lawyer Ned Racine (William Hurt), the heat coming off of Kathleen Turner's body is too much to resist, despite the ring on her finger. After embarking on a violently torrid affair, the two hatch a plot to kill her husband and get off scot free. But in a story like this a man who thinks he's covered all the angles is usually heading for a very big fall, especially when a woman is involved.
This new Special Edition includes deleted scenes, making-of documentaries and a sparkling new director-approved transfer. --EH |
