Michael Haneke followed up "The Piano Teacher" with another collaboration with Isabelle Huppert, this time going into post-apocalyptic territory. A family travels to their country home only to find a man and woman hiding there in the wake of an cataclysmic event. Violence soon occurs and the family find themselves desperately seeking a place of safety that may no longer exist.
Haneke is not specific as to the event in question (plague, war, famine - pick whichever horseman of the Apocalypse suits your fancy), but focuses instead on the human character when society is stripped away. Best Screenplay, Catalonian International Film Festival. VIFF selection. --SD |
