This film is the equivalent to "The Blair Witch Project" in its use of documentary-style images to show the effects of claustrophobic horror on a hardened group of individuals. Werner Herzog manages to build a ragtag group of movie makers and cryptozoologists to construct a concise and responsible look at the monster/legend of Loch Ness.
Bathing suit models, having to change the engine of the boat because it interferes with the DAT/sound, a loopy obsessive scientist, and a producer who has other ideas for the "real" life adventure, leads the documentary project to some very "unreal" cirumstances...or is the horror all too real? Werner Herzog pulls the reigns in this pseudo-(did I say that?) documentary that only someone like Herzog could devise. "I still swear there's a monster in there!" --SM |
